The project « Democratic life of disadvantaged citizens in EU, addressed on local level, between communes of Tinca and Zsadány » was funded with the support of the European Union under the Programme „Europe for Citizens”

Applicable to the Strand 2 – Measure 2.1 „Town-Twinning”

Participation: The project involved 186 citizens, notably 98 participants from Tincacommune(Romania),71 participants from Zsadány commune(Hungary) and 17 participants from “Zsadányi Közhasznú Sportegyesület” – Zsadány Sports Association (Hungary).Location/ Dates: The event took place in Tinca commune(Tinca, Romania), from 02/10/2015 to 04/10/2015.
Short description:

The day of 02/10/2015was dedicated to the Seminar on disadvantaged citizens’ participation in the democratic life of the EU.

The seminar raised the awareness of the dangers associated with exclusion, including racism and xenophobia. Young people from the communities were involved through a competition on the theme of the seminar. A committee of four judged the presentations and the contestants which got diplomas and small gifts. A professor from the University of Oradea, Bihor County (with knowledge in history and European Union), an young expert from Oradea Metropolitan Area Organization (with great experience in cross border relations and projects), and both the representatives of the two partner institutions/local authorities from the town-twinning project were implied in the debate, thus cooperation and partnership between organizations, institutions, authorities, communities and social groups was encouraged and the transfer of know-how and experience was facilitated.

The day of 03/10/2015 was dedicated to Visits to some tourist attractions and investments in Tinca, to Physical activities: football, handball and volleyball games and to the Seminar on the role of EU development cooperation.

Tourist attractions from Tinca were visited: The Orthodox Church (with one of the most beautiful iconostasis covered with gold); Fallen Heroes Monument during the WW2; Graveyard of Fallen Heroes in the WW2; The Reformed Church; The Museum of Natural Sciences; The „May 8” Health resort from Tinca, where the guests drank mineral water. A brochure with the sites was handed to the participants. Two groups of youngsters from the twinned communes of TInca and Zsadány were engaged in sport and physical activities. Zsadány Sports Association was a partner of the project and was involved in organizing and playing the football, handball and volleyball games. A referee from the Romanian Football Federation and sports teachers have refereed the matches. Cups, diplomas and small gifts were handed to the teams. The seminar emphasized on the year of 2015 as the European Year for Development. Again young people were involved through a competition which focused on case studies, presentation of good practices on the projects already successfully implemented. A committee of four proposed exercises and have encouraged brainstorming, role playing and problem-solving, based on the case presented on the role of EU development cooperation. The contestants were rewarded with diplomas and small gifts.

The day of 04/10/2015 was dedicated to Lecture and debate on the future of Europe.

Speakers with knowledge in history and European Union (the professor from the University of Oradea and the expert with experience in cross border relations and projects) helped to debate, exemplifying lessons learned from the past and the concrete achievements of the European Union. Citizens were mobilized to participate and to debate by a PowerPoint presentations contest. A brochure describing the theme and the main ideas was handed to the participants. The also received diplomas and small gifts.
